Start your journaling journey with Journal Safari

I’m on a mission to make sure your journal doesn’t stay unopened and gathering dust

I want you to develop a relationship with the page so that you have a coach on call whenever you need to work your way through something hard, celebrate a win or seek wisdom about an important decision.

A good coach does that. And as a coach, I developed Journal Safari from my distilled wisdom coaching hundreds of people and my own experience journaling as a stressed-out middle-aged woman juggling the often-competing demands of career, children, partner and aging parents. I desperately needed to find out who I was and what I wanted, needed and deserved.

Journal Safari helps you find your way back to who you are

It’s not a book of random prompts or formulaic gratitude check boxes; every exercise has the backing of neuroscience and coaching psychology. Each “day” in the journal is like a coaching session; you let go of what you’re bringing, you dive into a particular topic and then you make meaning and commitments before you end.

As you make progress through the journal, the topics become a little more challenging; I encourage you to go a little deeper, be a little bit more curious. On the way, you learn to feel all your feelings without fear or judgement, you get back in touch with your playful Inner Child and you gain clarity and confidence. You find the best you.

Safari just means a journey

My interest in journaling was sparked during my Master’s program, when I wrote my dissertation on the role of emotions in coaching. During the pandemic I built on this work and wrote Journal Safari: Create your journal habit in 30 days. Journal Safari was inspired by my African roots and informed by the wisdom of safari.  Safari is a Kiswahili word meaning journey.  Going on safari, as the word is meant in English, is an exercise of discipline, focus, persistence and openness.

I encourage you to bring a safari mindset to journaling and to leadership.

The proven power of journaling

I have seen (and there is research to back this up) that journaling :

  • Generates change in the moment and over time

  • Boosts confidence and self-esteem

  • Strengthens emotional intelligence and self-awareness (which has been shown to be more important than IQ in succeeding at work and flourishing at home)

  • Builds resilience and the ability to deal with change and uncertainty

  • Reduces stress and anxiety

  • Boosts decision-making and creativity

  • Creates accountability and a record of lessons and successes

  • Improves relationships (with self and with others)

Journaling is a phenomenal tool to help you:

  • Clarify personal values: Identify what truly matters to you and establish life goals that resonate with your core beliefs.

  • Set healthy boundaries: Learn to communicate your needs effectively with loved ones and colleagues

  • Master the Art of “No”: Politely decline requests without guilt or defensiveness

  • Balance the personal and the professional: Avoid stress, overwhelm and burnout

  • Explore difficult emotions: Recognize, accept, and articulate your feelings.

  • Overcome common obstacles: Tackle procrastination, perfectionism, and the urge to please others.

Moyra Mackie Journal coach

Sometimes, with the best of intentions (and the best journal!) we still don’t develop a habit. Change is hard, which is why having accountability, support and challenge really helps. If you are really serious about your own personal growth and you’ve tried journaling but not stuck at it or not seen the results you’d like, then that’s exactly what the Inner Circle, my online membership is for.

The Inner Circle is a beautiful place to start putting a regular reflective practice into place and to make sure you make best use of either the physical journal or the digital download.

Journaling is a powerful form of self-coaching
